Somerby (The Stilton Cheese) - Historic Short Walk with David H and Bob W

This short walk, led by David H and Bob W from the Stilton Cheese in Somerby, starts at 9.45 am to allow time for reading information at the various locations which will be backed up with a crib sheet. The pub is booked for 1300hrs.

The  6.5 mile walk visits most of the historic sites associated with the 10th Battalion Paratroop Regiment which was based in Somerby during the Second World War. The 10th Battalion is famous for their involvement in the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. Of the 400+ troops who left Somerby to take part, only 36 returned - the rest were either dead, missing in action or became prisoners of war. Bob’s father and uncle both took part in this battle - his father returned but his uncle became a POW.
