For sometime the Leicestershire Round crossing of A46 dual carriageway near Ratcliffe College, has been difficult to negotiate, despite a central reservation, due to speed and heavy traffic..
As an alternative, you may wish to consider taking an alternative route via Ratcliffe Village and then joining the original route near Rearsby Mill, which prevents the need to cross the A46.
Details.
When walking from Cossington towards Ratcliffe College, upon reaching Ratcliffe Road, (Map Ref SK61958 14664) instead of crossing the road into the college grounds, turn right and walk downhill towards the A46 underpass. Although the road can be busy at times and there isn't a pedestrian footpath, there is wide grass verge on the right. Go under the A46, taking care when crossing the mouths of the slip roads, and then take the pedestrian footpath on the left into Ratcliffe village. Upon reaching St Botolph church, go down Church Lane and join the right of way at the bottom of the lane. (Map Ref. SK63158 14506) Head initially north east on the right of way and join the original route of the Round near Rearsby Mill ( Map Ref. SK 64114 14957)
