Last Wednesday, 21st July, was the first time that two walks had started from the same place, the Greyhound carpark in Botcheston. The shorter and slower walk was led by Brid Chadney while Greg Jones led the longer and faster walk. Although the weather had started cloudier and cooler, it wasn’t that long before the day got sunnier and hotter, so both walks were shortened. The shorter walk was just under 5 miles and the longer one (which went along the notorious S14 footpath) was just over 6.5 miles. The total number of participants was just 20 walkers, although June and Dennis met us for a chat at the start before doing their own walk around Thornton Reservoir.
The walk this Wednesday, 28th July, will be led by Mike Ross from Foston Church (LE8 5WQ). As parking will be a little tricky near the Church itself, please park in lay-bys and on the grass verge driving south down Barley Lane.
Next Wednesday, 4th August, will be our Summer Picnic and Barbecue in Anne Constable’s garden, Brascote Lodge, Brascote Lane, Brascote, Newbold Verdon (LE9 9LE). There will be two walks in the morning – one longer and faster walk of just under 7 miles and the other slower and shorter walk of 5 miles. For catering purposes, Anne would like to know who will be attending, so if you haven’t already got in touch with her, then please do so ASAP by either phone or email. As you will already know, this is a charity event with all proceeds going to Faraja Support (started by Mike and Helen Ross), which runs a Tanzanian orphanage. There will be a stall of Tanzanian goods for sale, which will take cards or cash.
