Wednesday Walks

Yesterday (Wednesday, 4th Aug), we had our Summer Barbecue/Picnic in Anne Constable’s garden in Brascote, which was attended by over 40 people. Beforehand there was a short walk (led by Anne) and a long walk (led by Tom Brooks) to Cadeby, Osbaston, Newbold Verdon and back to Brascote. The weather was warm and sunny most of the time, which helped make this a very successful charity event in aid of Faraja Support (a Leicester-based charity that runs a Tanzanian orphanage and was started by one of the Wednesday Walkers, Mike Ross, and his wife, Helen). It was a great opportunity for people to socialise once again (something that hasn’t really happened for over 20 months) and, in the process, over £450 was raised. A big, big thank you to Anne, Averil and Rob (who did the barbecue) as well as to all those who gave generously, whether in providing food and/or money for the charity. It definitely has been the highlight of the year so far.

Next Wednesday, 11th August, the short walk will be from the Stanton Lakes Car Park, Broughton Lane, Stoney Stanton (LE9 4JA) and will be led by Steve King. The walk on Wednesday, 18th August, will be led by Dennis O’Brien from Mount St Bernard’s Abbey ( LE67 5UL). A reminder that all walks, whether short or long, will start at 10am, so please arrive in plenty of time.
