Water filled former slate pit in Swithland Woods said to be 150 ft deep
This was the walk to replace the walk that never was , 33 turned up. The weather was super, and made up for the Jan 3rd debacle. We started from The Bradgate @ Newtown Linford, took the footpath about 200yds from the pub. Straight thro’ Braggy, on little used paths, over two fields and into Switherland woods. These woods by the way have been much improved, a sheer pleasure to walk thro’. Coffee at 11.00 on felled trees, and on to do 75% of the circumference, one more field and back into the park. Here the group split, Half walked the path directly through to the main gates and so to the carvery, and the other half followed me over the hills, and again back to the pub via the main gate. Vera measured it on her super machine and said 6.5 miles, although we all enjoyed the walk, many disagreed with Vera , they thought it was 10 miles.
